What's the best exercises & supplements for your shin bones & calf muscles?

Just asking as I want to get back to long distance jogging & "tabbing" (aka marching or fast walking with a weighted ruck sack) again however frontal shin bones hurt & calf muscles strain. Shin Splints & the like. Pain in the arse.

Would like to know any good tips etc.
 
Weighted calf raises at least 3x a week with lots of volume, trust me your calves can take it. Tibialis anterior (antagonist of the calf muscles, responsible for dorsiflexion or lifting the foot upwards) can be trained by sitting upright on a chair/bench, taking a light dumbbell between your feet and just lifting your foot up.
