too long + most of the earlier episodes are slow and it takes a while to get to the main plot so a lot of people just drop it

It depends; there isn't just one.

It depends on how old you are, what you hope to see, and so on.

Personally, I think Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the best anime in terms of narrative structure.
