What’s the explanation behind sleep paralysis caused by sleeping on your back?

Never happened to me not even once, but I heard it happens really often to other people. What’s the explanation behind this?
 
Curiosity
 
Because it makes you not be able to breathe properly so you wake up in the middle of the night at high brain activity time
