Sure, it comes with risk which is entirely dependent on the surgery itself, but also the surgeon you personally decided to go with.

At the end of the day, there are some "crazy and/or insane" procedures that very few people are willing to do. Does it make surgery in general a crazy thing to do? Not at all.
