Because looks aren't reducible to dopamine release like material things are, looks are a direct reflection of how you treat yourself and what makes you a good mating partner. Sure humans aren't wild animals that work purely on intuition anymore which is why not only looks matter but we as humans are still inclined to our primordial instincts hence it matters most.

This is even more exacerbated when you're just looking for slays and hookups literally only how u look matters, but for truelovecels or relationshipcels then yeah there's more to factor in.

Last thing I will say is that looksmaxxing as a necessity is mainly for people who are actually literally ugly, people who say what you're saying mostly never had a big issue being an incel or being a sociable person and have a decent height alongside face so they don't understand that looks genuinely hold you down when you're ugly and fat as fuck ridden with acne.
