I think the lowest stress situation is a high paid professional salary + investing in stocks. Wageslaving sucks if you make a shit amount of money for your time. But if you make a good amount for your time and manage it well it's much better than the maximum stress involved with running a business. Most users here seem to despise wageslaving. But what's your alternative? I'm self-employed rn and it's fucking boring tbh, I called the suicide hotline not long ago. When I had a job, I had at least humans I met regularly and there was office talk and all this stuff. The only good thing rn is that I can set my own schedule.
I think most people won't be able to be successful entrepreneurs. And being self-employed is boring. Also, you will likely make less money than with wageslaving. I'm thinking of starting a new career tbh, not only because I could make more money, but also because wageslaving would give me more social exposure and I think I would feel more proud because of the social proof of a 9-5 job. Only if I manage to make 500k or more with my investments the next years I would consider skipping wageslaving forever.
You are not really dependent in that situation on managing other people to get your income and you have more leeway to adapt your lifestyle to what you want (highly skilled = high bargaining power as well). You show up, do a good job, feel confident about your skills, earn a good amount of money, put it to work earning money passively, and live off it once you are done accumulating a self-perpetuating fortune.
With a 2% yearly withdraw rate even at 20 years old with a 100% stock index portfolio won't ever get depleted and will likely grow significantly in excess of what you withdraw + the purchasing power loss from inflation.
House + Lexus + $2m in stocks is enough to live comfortably for life and that's obtainable with software salaries in 10-20 years if you save your money and job hop.
If you have inheritance coming your way it could happen even sooner.
