When a wedding proposal happens, why do normies always say "Congrats"?

I always see social media posts of normies commentating "congrats" under every post of a proposal. Im in my mid 20s now and every few months someone I knew my HS and College posts a proposal and it's a wave of "congrats" in the comments. What exactly are they congratulating? Is getting engaged really an accomplishment? Am I just non-NT to understand this?

Because they are expressing they are now committed and not going to cheat on each other or run off with another man/woman. Gf/bf dating phase is just experimental until marriage.

Which is bullshit because 50% of marriages end in divorce, and the other 50% theres a ton of cheating going on with the spouses staying together for finances and kids

So realistically even after a wedding 70-80% of marriages have at least one of the spouses fucking someone else
