Forward growth is mostly finished at age 12 I think lol. From that point on your maxilla grows downwards and sideways and your skull gets taller and wider which is why children have smaller skulls.

You know nothing. It grows down in the sense that the maxilla gets taller (longer midface) to accommodate the larger skull. Downward growth as you are thinking is about downward tilt (CW rotation) of the maxilla.
