Yes they did and it was close af.
1/3 of the land but more than 2/3 of population and industry. Would have been over if the 3 major sieges were successful

The Soviet Union was going to invade Europe regardless, the Soviets were backed up by America and Britain with resources and a bad winter hit the Germans, otherwise they would have lost
