I suppose feminists from Twitter and Tik Tok later made the term popular again, focusing on how differently men and women perceive beauty, and how women should stop trying to chase the "male gaze". Basically it’s used as a cope to tell women insecure about their looks "girl you are not ugly, you just don’t fit into the objectifying, oppressing male gaze!"
