Where does the "fat neckbeard 4chan poster" stereotype even come from?

In my experience I find it to be false.

I don't post on the shit site anymore but occasionally view archived threads when bored. The few times someone posts themselves or a part of themselves, 90% of the time they have skinny wrists or delicate features. I've literally never seen an obese neckbeard type posting even though the site is stereotyped to be filled with them.

For example, all the people posting themselves on this 4chan thread look like underweight anime characters or lean at the heaviest:

I've noticed this trend on other sites as well, in that more nerds and autistics seem to be femboy twinks rather than fat fedora wearers.

The "fat nerd" stereotype is actually a perfect example of lookism in action. The skinny twinks are really the nastiest and wierdest ones, but all their actions get blamed on the fat and/or ugly people since it's seen as more acceptable to hate them.

Good thread.

Because fat neckbeards are people who are treated poorly by society and therefore sought out obscure places online, in the same way people with poor genetics and/or environment do so. Normies are subconsciously aware of determinism and that these are a subset of people they will treat poorly and will therefore go to 4chan, incel websites etc

Are you suggesting that the narcissistic twinks are basically attention-seeking "normies" who purposefully go to obscure online areas to feel better by taking over and bullying out actual misfits?

It had no connection to your post since I didn't read it, however people who sought out these places will have either a genetic or environmental issue. Whether it be they were socialized poorly, got bullied etc. They're misfits or lacking in some regard also otherwise they would just be normies and be on netflix, hanging out with friends or some other random bs. They're in the same boat as the neckbeards

People associate being considered weird with being ugly, you last sentence says it all

Dude, the only "4chan users" left are trannies and Redditors. KC is old-skool 4chan.

It's a stereotype that comes from years before 4chan appeared, comic book guy from the simpsons is a neckbeard and has been around since the late 80's , the stereotype like all stereotypes most probably has some basis in reality. The neckbeards are also less probably to post, the neckbeard meme guy posted on /v/ in 2013, he might still be around.

I'm not. I came across this shit thread by chance. I think anyone who unironically posts on 4chan should be publicly decapitated.

Jerry Messing - in october 31, 2013 a picture of Messing appeared on Reddit. The photo features Messing wearing a fedora and grinning at the camera. After being widely disseminated online, Messing was labeled "Fedora Guy" and the picture became synonymous with "neckbeard" and "nice guy" stereotypes, as well as a joke at the expense of atheists. Messing has stated in subsequent interviews that the picture was an outtake for a headshot photoshoot he took when attempting to restart his acting career, after briefly attending Florida International University to study psychology. As Messing noted, "I'm certainly not thrilled with the communities the photo has come to represent, but it isn't something I can really do anything about—so I don't let it bother me."

From the 1983 movie wargames. I am having trouble posting pics here, but the prototypical fat computer neck beard hacker is halfway down the page in the link if the picture I post is not viewable.

This is actually a good example of what I'm saying. This supposed "prototypical pretentious fat nerd" is not even an actual nerd. They just get scapegoated the most.

In my personal experience, both online and offline, the very ugly people are actually not that bad in how they behave. It's the prettyboy twinks who are the worst ones, but they always get excused or defended (like that autistic sonic kid).

I hate this lookist society.

He did play a nerd in the tv show Freaks and Geeks...

because the overweight ones are too scared to post pics due to fatphobic society
