Where does the term Chad come from?

I can imagine it comes from real life experience, but the earliest I can find is from bleach in 2004 from the character Yasutora Sado who was called Chad in his high school and fits the stereotype pretty well.

the name "chad" has always been associated with the tall good looking jock type that was prevalent in 2000s highschool dramas.
