Recently, a bioscience company called Colossal Biosciences brought the dire wolf back to life after 10,000 years
IMG 7019

The difference between a modern wolf and a dire wolf is that the dire wolf is much larger(roughly 25%), much stockier(thicker cortical bone density), and have much larger skulls, etc.
IMG 7020

The way scientists “bring these extinct species back to life” is by using an already present species(in this case the grey wolf) and editing it’s genes to be more like a Dire Wolf’s(based on archaeological evidence discovered such as teeth) via genetic engineering technology like CRISPR

Colossal Biosciences says that they aren’t done yet, they have yet to bring more species back to life as well, such as the Woolly Mammoth and the Dodo Bird

The Woolly Mammoth
IMG 7021

This elephant species roamed and lived during the ice age and was built to endure harsh and cold winter climates. They weren’t always as massive as they are depicted in today’s world. They coexisted with hominids and were last alive in Siberia. Woolly Mammoths all went extinct after the world got too hot for them to bear.

Colossal Biosciences is actively working on bringing the woolly mammoth back by 2027.

The Dodo Bird
IMG 7022

The Dodo was a small bird that was unable to fly. Humans were the cause of this bird’s extinction and it went extinct in the 1600’s. This creature resided on an island within the Indian Ocean. The Dodo wasn’t a dumb bird, but due to being so isolated, it wasn’t fearful of humans, and this is exactly what led to its death.

Colossal Biosciences announced a potential de-extinction of this bird in 2023, but so far we haven’t heard any major updates.

They didnt bring dire wolves back to life they just genetically selected and activated genes to make regular grey wolves phenotypically resemble what they believe Dire Wolves looked like

It depends on the situation.
A pack of hominids could easily take on a woolly mammoth and succeed, as they used to do during the ice age. Woolly Mammoths were a perfect food source that despite the amount of effort it took to kill them, the humans could ensure that they would be well-fed afterwards.

But by yourself, all alone, a Woolly Mammoth wins every single time unless you have some sort of exterior leverage such as a gun

I wish I could ride a T rex 🦖
Don’t we all:Comfy:

Early homo-sapiens were terrifying to the rest of the world, We’re not stronger, We’re not faster, We’re not larger. So then why did we always come out on top? You might be thinking intelligence, and yeah that’s part of it. but what really sets us apart is our endurance.

A tribe of homo-sapien hunter gatherers could run after a woolly mammoth for days on end, not having to stop for a break due to the ability to sweat, relying on fat storage for food. Eventually, we would tire out whatever we were chasing, and it would give up. Then we would use our tools(which was a very foreign idea to everything else, and the only reason we had such a thing was because of our intellectual superiority) to finish off the animal. This is how we persevered. Our endurance.

So my favorite is the wooly mammoth.

btw they arent even actual dire wolves. They are literally normal grey wolves with literally a few alleles changed to make them seem phenotypically how people think a dire wolf would actually look like. They are for all intents and purposes, just a white grey wolf. The funniest shit? First of all dire wolves went extinct over 10,000 years ago and are not even genetically related to modern grey wolves. Secondly......

I was hoping someone would say this, the dodo actually would make a great pet because it doesn’t sense any danger in humans. This is why when humans hunted this bird, instead of hiding, it didn’t know what to do because it was so lonely that it hadn’t developed a defense mechanism from predators.
