I use a trimmer with no guard that cuts to about 1mm. Any shorter you risk ingrown hair.

If you shave body hair it will give you that pricking feeling for a day or so when it grows back, it's not something that can be avoided by switching to another trimmer. You should trim it to like 1 mm or above for less irritation
