The rain was coming down hard against the apartment window, but Mark barely noticed. He was staring at the doorway where Sarah stood with her packed suitcase.
"I'm leaving, Mark," she said, her voice completely flat.
Mark blinked, setting down his mug. "What? Sarah, what are you talking about? Did I do something?"
"No," she said, pulling her coat tighter around herself. "It's not you. I met someone else."
Mark’s stomach dropped. He stood up, stepping forward. "Someone else? Who? We’ve been together for three years. Who could you possibly leave me for?"
"It's Gamer," she replied simply.
"Who?" Mark asked, his mind racing, trying to recall every friend, coworker, or mutual acquaintance they had ever mentioned. "Gamer? Is that a nickname? What's his real name? Where did you even meet him?"
"He is Gamer," Sarah said. She offered no further detail, no context, and no emotion.
Before Mark could process the words, a honk sounded from the street below. Sarah turned, took her suitcase, and walked out the door, closing it softly behind her.
Mark ran to the window and pressed his face against the glass. Down on the curb, Sarah was getting into the passenger seat of a idling car. Driver's side door shut, the brake lights flashed red, and the car pulled away into the rainy night, carrying Sarah away with Gamer. Mark stood alone in the quiet apartment, completely bewildered, unable to fathom how he had just lost the love of his life to Gamer.
