Yes, it's true. Finland was just a county in Kingdom of Sweden for about 800 years. Before that, Finnic tribes and viking raiders had had fierce battles and revenges back and forth. Vikings raid a few finnish villages and take our women and children as slaves to sell to Turks or Crimeans as they paid big money for blonde slaves, and finns would take up arms and march to Sweden and conquer some city and burn it. Long history of fighting.
Swedes were known also as brutal leaders, during the little ice age, they just let Finns starve even though they had plenty of food, causing massive famines. Overall Swedes caused the death of at least over third of Finnish population during the 800 years of rule.
