It's not just surgeons but assistants too. The office I went to had the consultant, assistants and the surgeon. The assistants did most of the work actually, they did extractions and implantation. The surgeon only really did poke holes in my head for the assistants (nurses? I didn't ask their positions). Its like a team, you might look it into because their tasks are split into single parts of the procedure (I'm my case.)
