Is it hr department or someone else ?
Hr dept is mostly female so I was thinking so attaching my pic on resume where I look ch.. I mean low tier normei, girls are empathetic so they might feel bad and hire me for a high paying position

but I’ve read resumes with pics are thrown away instantly
Also if manager or someone else is responsible then it might not work

thoughts ?
@sytyl … not sure who else would know about jobs and hiring process

Usually HR. Never heard of employers throwing out resumes with pictures on them, although maybe that varies per job sector (not in mine at least). If you’re good looking, 100% put your picture on if you can. It’s been shown better looking people get hired over average or ugly people even if they’re less qualified, regardless of if the interviewer is M or F.

I read online but could be false

what’s your job sector ? I have a commerce degree, already working but looking for something better

also adding pic to resume makes it 3 pages long instead of 2.. would that be too long for a resume ?

Software engineering and data science, specifically towards the financial sector (ML algorithms and quantum computing). So it’s basically irrelevant for me to have a picture because everything is merit based and employers aren’t going to have as much of a bias since my sector is pretty focused on academia and intelligence.

If your resume is already 2 pages, maybe don’t put a picture on then. If you really have all that much relevant experience then it’s best not wasting space with a picture that may or may not help you. I’d assume you’d get a good amount of interviews and you can utilize your looks there instead, and just keep your resume to the most relevant info.

At grad/ junior/ more unskilled levels, HR have a reasonable amount of say.

At more senior / highly specialised levels, they hab virtually no say.

I've never heard about anything even close to this.
But then again, depends where you live.

HR just filters out the candidates. you speak later with the manager or team lead u r working for, he decides it

Main thing that decides whether you get hired is your interview skills. Looks barely have any relevance.

9:50-15:00

depends on the job though. If you’re going for a physics position at a research lab, I agree with you. If you’re going for a finance/business job, they ABSOLUTELY matter

Why do you think ugly guys can’t make money ? Asians and Indians money mog everyone
He is a troll dude. Ignore him. The morons here who say looks matter a lot for getting hired are very wrong. Even if you are ugly, most interviewers are very friendly and accommodating. This HR foid really helped me out when I had issues during the whole hiring process. I don't get niggas who complain they are not getting hired due to their face. That's BS.

That only matters if you are visibly ugly. As long as you aren't deformed, are well dressed wearing a good suit and good hairstyle, you should be fine. They matter but to an insignificant degree.

That is cope. Message recruiters directly or use your personal network.

Did you even watch the video? The point is that good looking people can win even if they are LESS qualified based on merit compared to an average person. I agree that you can do well as an average looking person, yes. But being good looking will give you an edge over those that are similar/close to your skill level

I don't see this playing out in my life. My best looking buddies are not the most successful career wise even in sectors such as finance and business. The main factors are IQ and personality traits. Like take this dude:

1642520966657

He joined a big bank as an analyst and got promoted very quickly. He is above average in intelligence and hard working as well as reasonably NT. If this guy came to you wanting to work in finance, would you tell him it's over? I mean he has the worst possible face and height (manlet I think 5'6") combo to succeed in that field. He is also has a height pitched voice. Looks matter for finance jobs but imo 10% at the most, probably less. It's a barely relevant factor if you exclude proper dressing, hairstyle and grooming.

Btw shit like this gives people an excuse to be an NEET rotter. There's a 6'7" white normie here who complains he is not getting hired due to his face. You need to be visibly below average to get rejected for your looks. It's such a small factor that it's barely relevant.

Btw I'd suggest you wear glasses and get a nerdy hairstyle for your interviews. You look too much like a frat bro. Interviewers will assume you are too dumb for software engineering.

I'll retract my statement actually. What I mean is they don't matter in the sense that you have to look like a chad. But people will assume things based on your appearance. I could argue that an attractive guy could be disadvantaged because they might assume he isn't smart enough for the position. While a less attractive, nerdy looking dude could benefit.

Maybe if you really fit an image of a particular thing, like having lots of tats and a leather jacket wouldn’t suit well for a STEM interview. I still think being goodlooking benefits in some interview situations, but not all. Either way, you don’t need to be chad to get most jobs, we agree on that. You can be relatively ugly and successful. Looks just increasing the chances by varying amounts depending on your profession. In STEM, only a tiny bit. In business, a good amount.

I just walked right in my bosses' backyard and said: "Hey dude...you need staff?" and he was like "well I guess we can give it a try". Not even kidding :ROFLMAO: I have been there for 7 years and it pays about 75K a year so not even a bad job.

do you have a CS degree? Do you have colleagues who don't have a degree?

as far as you know can someone have the same job like the one you're aiming for without a degree?
Pretty unlikely but possibly. You’d need to have relevant work experience doing something else as a programmer to get to the job im going into
