I don't think it's that. The Chinese people will never give a damn what foreigners think. Foreigners will never influence Chinese people in China. The government just uses foreign countries as a scapegoat for a plateauing economy or whatever. As a result people just hate foreigners.

COVID for example. The government had them thinking COVID came from the West and as a result they would be scared shitless of us everywhere we went. Even though the boarders had been closed to anyone except Chinese nationals for over a year average Chinese people didn't know any better, and would turn us away from shops and whatnot. Shewing us away and furiously spraying the entrance with alcohol. It runs much deeper than that though.

Economy is bad? Blame the foreigners so long as the people don't point the finger at the CCP.

Their Internet is extremely restricted.
