A Bengali is a former East Pakistani. When the British left South Asia, Bharat (“India”) and Pakistan started to exist. Modern-day Pakistan was known as West Pakistan and modern-day Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan. Due to increasing ethno-nationalism in East Pakistan and Bharati help, East Pakistan separated from West Pakistan and became known as Bangladesh since 1971. Most pakistanis aren't at all nationalistic or care about the conflict enough to think this here in the west but I can play the same game and call out the fact that your nation and people have high rates of consanguineous marriages and birth defects, the fact that bacha bazi exists, or the fact that fucking bangladesh surpassed Pakistan in terms of GDP. How's that for "divine justice"? I have family on my grandmother's side that were slaughtered in the name of forced servitude toward a state that prohibited the use of a literal language.
