india's population is still growing while china's population is decreasing

The US/NATO is already trying really hard for this to happen… especially after getting kicked out of Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, they can’t corner China from the west any more. So they tried to get India to join NATO, but India refused.

A war with China would make India more dependent on the West, which they don’t want to be. And for what, there’s nothing in the Chinese controlled areas of Kashmir that India doesn’t have already or couldn’t get from Russia.
