Why 99% of "looksmaxxing studies" in this community are absolute BS

I find it hilarious how almost nobody in the entire global community can put together a proper 'study' or even a decent attempt at an experiment for looksmaxxing/ascending. They literally just add one new variable or some random control group, and then dump their individual experiences out there—all during an age where uncontrolled changes in diet and habits are completely normal anyway. And when they do it, they completely fail to realize that just the sheer fact you started caring more about your appearance indirectly skews the results.

Not gonna lie, I’ve done the exact same thing before, BUT I always tried to give actual context to the situation I was in. We constantly see people claiming that some random BS like the 'primal diet' changed their life, but before that, the motherfucker was eating horse shit and plain bread every single day. And on top of that, they actually believe the results came from just ONE specific thing, while they spent MONTHS doing a million different things at the same time.

To complement this, we also need to talk about:

  • The 'Placebo + Effort' Effect: The moment someone decides to 'change their life,' they don't just change one thing. Psychologically, they start sleeping better, drinking more water, and fixing their posture because they are suddenly hyper-focused. Then, they give 100% of the credit to some weird supplement or routine, completely ignoring that their brain just switched to 'self-care mode.'
  • The Baseline Fallacy: If your baseline lifestyle is absolute garbage, literally any change will feel like a miracle. Going from a 2/10 lifestyle to a 6/10 lifestyle gives your body a massive shock, but it doesn't mean your new trendy diet is magic—it just means you finally stopped poisoning yourself.
  • Correlation vs. Causation (The Puberty Cop-Out): The community is packed with teenagers. If a 16-year-old starts a routine and his face looks completely different by 18, he will swear by whatever method he was using. In reality, it was just genetics, natural bone development, and losing baby fat. They didn't crack the code; they just grew up.

Okay, anon, keep believing in fallacies and keep not getting any pussy.

You dont know shit about this site and you made your main point with AI. I doubt you have even bothered to open BOTB and read a few lines.

I wrote this text myself, I just used Gemini to translate it. Sorry if I want to have a little quality of life, and sorry for questioning some things and not being an ignorant person. LMAO

You have not read enough to question. READ BOTB FIRST and then you can refute it by giving facts.

Ignoring the shitty AI bullet points, I find the introduction to his thread to be reasonable, people often spend months, if not years of effort doing tons of things and then allot all of their results to being the derivative of two things, given an ego, their own "will" (Albeit a genetic ability) as well as something like muh I ate a certain way

Of course you can find anecdotes of persons who are more clinical on here with that being said, i.e @hollywoodngl documenting like everything about himself

Bruh, I’m not clueless; I just raised some questions and used a headline designed to grab attention. I’d be happy to discuss all the behavioral habits with you, but you chose not to understand the post's target audience.

nice one chatgpt!

Thanks for the mention bro.

So what would a reasonable test be? Someone who eats the same thing every day, goes to sleep at the same time every day and consumes the same amount of fluid everyday?

If so, I would definitely, in the future, take experiment ideas from the community, test them on myself and then document the process the same way I do with the site

I still plan to try this myself, but I’m not yet in a position to fully carry out such experiments. The raw diet, for instance, is something I want to incorporate into my routine someday—with proper monitoring and when I'm a bit older. Right now, I’m just documenting the results regarding my dental appliance and chewing habits. That’s another point: it’s working very well for me, but only because I had—and still have—a crossbite; the results I’ve seen are strictly due to that. It wouldn't work miracles for a normal person without that condition, yet I’m forced to read comments claiming it won't change anything and that it's just puberty.

I used to be involved in the fitness scene, and in Brazil, there is—and always has been—a lot of misinformation about what works and what doesn't. I came across content creators who would include a disclaimer about this, and in my opinion, for a proper personal experiment, you shouldn't just analyze your results; you need to look at your weaknesses and the most optimized, comprehensive way to improve or minimize them—without trying to do everything at once, of course. That’s tricky to pull off, which is why I’m talking about the community rather than a serious study with a controlled group. There are outliers—some people might get triple the results—so you have to be careful about attributing success to just one factor. However, a test I think would be valid involves identical twins, or even a friend with a similar physique to yours: one person does one thing while the other does the opposite (or follows a slightly different variation), and you track the results over several months—ideally with people of a similar age. Even then, there’s still a margin of error. Sorry for the long message. XD

Interesting take.

Would be interesting if we saw a pair of identical twins in the bodybuilding scene that could do this

To wrap up the discussion: that’s what I learned in this field, though it applies to practically any type of study or experiment. I’m interested in what you’re doing and will be following along.
