It's because they start with the incorrect premise that humans were created exactly the way they were meant to be instead of evolving naturally from less intelligent animals. This implies that any change to mankind's state is unnatural and by definition against god's will. This is why westerners tend to see the posthuman condition as an un-natural abomination.
Eastern religions on the other hand have embraced the ideas of post-humanism since antiquity. Taoists have always attempted to use chemical drugs (unsuccesfully) to improve the body and mind and buddhists have undertaken extreme practices such as self mummification to achieve higher states of awareness. Eastern philosophy embraces the ideas of a constantly evolving and changing mankind as opposed to a static, perfect mankind created in gods image.
