Forward growth in and of itself beyond the vertical line between brow and chin is not necessary for a good face.
HOWEVER it has a series of secondary effects that are important. One of them is that with all that projection soft tissue is stretched further and so facilitates angularity and hollow cheeks. This additional skin stretching further leads to less saggy skin and therefore less wrinkles and so better aging.
Not everyone needs that much projection to get angularity though.
