I cant be sure but in these environments with a specifically pine/timber rich environment it seems that height is an advantage. In the places in the americas where there is specifically these kinds of trees just like they have in north/central europe, such as the south east US or the north US and canadian border the native americans are also very tall, usually around 6 feet, which is similar to the height that the europeans have from scandinavia
