It seems like 90% of fantasy content, especially online, is consumed by incel neckbeards and weebs. What is it about this genre that attracts these sub-humans? On paper, there's no inherent reason why normal people can't enjoy this sort of content.

Interestingly, the sci-fi genre doesn't seem to suffer this problem as much despite some of the stereotypes (Star Trek/Star Wars nerds etc).

Fantasy is sometimes the inverse reality which reflects the lack of power of the individual othertimes just a way to create a story since "life" is often dull and boring or a way to have fun while evading irl consequences e.g.: u can't really play cod deathmatch irl.

Reality is also shit and you lack a lot of power in it, by computational means you can create virtual worlds where you can have infinite power and have everything how you want it to be.

because the sci fi genre was invented to make colonialist fantasy socially acceptable

spaceships are ships
bug aliens are the japanese
vulkans/nemodians/smart aliens are chinese
sand aliens are arabs
blue girls you want to fuck are native americans/SEA

Isekai in particular is my favorite,

usually the lives of the consumers of such content are mediocre in some kind of way

because fantasy is superior as it allows you to create more peaceful and superior worlds to this simulated moon saturn matrix

Not really though? Fantasy is mainstream now especially after Asoiaf. Just as Sci fi was once nerdy and is now cool

It's entirely arbitrary. Normies consume whatevers deemed cool at the time. That's why they're looksmaxxing now.

If you look at the lives of classic fantasy authors like Tolkien, Robert Jordan or Terry Pratchett they aren't typical geeks. If anything the new ones like rothfuss and sanderson are

Fantasy is like the most profilic genre ever and incredibly mainstream but I get what you mean. Autist incels like me tend to stay in our comfort zone and fantasy is the most basic bitch comfort zone genre ever.

Fantasy is mainstream now after Harry Potter, GOT, LotR, Witcher, etc, and fun. Everyone does escapism sometimes, even normies. It appeals to people because of the creativity involved in it, and nerds are often creative and sometimes autistic and have fascinations with fantasy elements/history/politics, etc, which is a lot of in the genre. A lot of people also like the aesthetics of fantasy. Same reason NT normies are obsessed with FIFA, it's just who they are.

And fantasy is the a cornerstone of fiction/storytelling. Even realistic stories are about the what ifs and how woulds and crime dramas are power fantasies. It’s about escaping to or exploring new worlds and alternate realities

Not sure I agree it's mainstream. There is Harry Potter/GoT but they're more like exceptions. It's sort of like how Star Wars was mainstream for the longest time but 99% of all other sci-fi was considered nerdy. Also, the fantasy elements in GoT are really toned down.

maybe the medieval setting? i don't get it either, dragons, elves, orcs, fairies, etc all seem really fucking stupid and childish to me. i never cared much for the fantasy stuff. i preferred sci fi and history. things grounded in reality.

Cuz incels lives are boring and fantasy is very entertaining and easy to escape into
