Humor and wit are an intelligent and masculine trait and it's very beneficial for attracting a partner (of course looks are the #1 but this aside for a second), the opposite is true for women. Their purpose is to be swayed by masculine traits, not manifest them, so instead of seeing it as humor we see it as an attempt to mask biology, and it's not attractive.
