Did you know it was a Mongol who single-handedly saved Islamic civilization from completely collapsing? One of them, a grandson of Genghis Khan by the name of Berke, reverted to Islam and started a war against his own cousin who had killed the last Caliph (universal Islamic ruler, basically) and massacred Islamic peoples in his campaigns (while sparing Christians because his mother was one). That was the first time there was a war in the Mongol Empire. If Hulagu (Berke's cousin) hadn't mercilessly slaughtered Islamic people, who knows how much longer the Mongol Empire would have lasted.
