Why are roids so feared

I know people who get heavily drunk, smoke packs and packs of cigarettes everyday but once I mention roids they look at me like I'm some maniac, is it because they aren't sold in stores?

Cause they think they will die or people will call them unnatural and think it's a bas thing.
