Why are so many people extremist?

I get right wing, I get left wing and I'm moderate right conservative myself, but why are so many people turning to extremists nowdays? (No I dont want to debate your ass, just wondering why). Most of these people are also under 14 and think being extremist is cool, no, youre just special. I'm not only talking about nazis, I'm also talking about communists
