Other way around actually. Most southern states are more developed than north Indian states. Kerala and Tamil Nadu have 100% literary and have contributed infinitely more than north states. Tamilians were also involved in the construction of the first Indian satallite. If ur talking about looks then I agree

It has to do with feudal social and economic systems. The more you controlled a vast majority of illiterate peasants you would become a powerful king.

In northern states there was less feudalism and more mutualism and free market, so it was just about time for becoming richer than poor rural southern areas.
