It has to do with surface area vs volume. If there is a sphere which is 10 inches in diameter, and a sphere which is 20 inches is diameter, the sphere that is 20 inches in diameter will have a volume almost 9 times as much, even though the diameter is only double. Just the same, with a person, a guy who is 5'7 vs a guy who is 5'10, the 3 inches seems small but the volume increase is much larger. An ant can lift its bodyweight easily and fall from a tree branches and be fine, but a small mouse would die if it fell from the same height and has trouble lifting just one pound. The volume to surface area is very impactful
