Why are the cowards in movies always the coolest characters?

Ever since I was a child I always admired whoever the coward or backstabber was in a movie. Who ever ran away or freaked out and cost everyone their lives was always the character I wanted to be like

Not sure, maybe because they are realistic, in real life most people would freak out, not act like super heroes.

Yeah but he was still a coward. I always listen to the song Coward from the interstellar soundtrack before any job interview or any other big occasion to prepare myself
