It's much easier for people to laugh at ugly persons...A fat/bald/ethnic/goofy looking guy can appear and simply burp, fart, scratch his balls or do some other stupid shit and people will be rolling on the floor laughing. They also probably went though a lot of painful, awkward or cringy experiences in life and when they recall them on stage, people again laugh easily at them.
