Those number are before taxes and if you don´t have enough money to buy an apartment youll have to rent which is super expensive, I remebmber hearing this youtube video about a software engineer fresh out of college making 150k a year that took like 2-3 years to save up 100k usd despite getting paid 300k-450k because they take like 40% of those earnings in taxes and the rent is super high (those 2 things take most of the money), he said that he wanted to save up 400k and retire in a place like thailand where he would't have to work ever again, I don't know which part of the US offers the best ratio between taxes, cost of living and earnings, I heard that in some texan cities like dallas, houston or san antonia wages are quite high while taxes are low unlike places such as new york, chicago or san francisco.
