Why are we still doing resumes and cover letters?

I feel like its really outdated to still be using resumes and cover letters. Why not a virtual presentation of some sort? Its like we are still stuck in the past, and I hate them. They get thrown out anyway. All that time and effort for nothing. I bet they never even look at them.
