It’s wild how people really look at my avi and just see a teddy bear.
This is his first album The College Dropout. Kanye’s first real shot his ultimate gamble. He dropped out of Chicago State while his own mother, Donda West, was the Chair of the English Department there. Dropping out wasn't just a choice, it was a symbolic middle finger to the traditional path especially coming from an academic household.
At the time, Ye was just a small producer. Everyone told him to stay in his lane and just keep making beats, but he went all in. He put all his money, his reputation, and his entire future on the line. It was sink or swim. Unlike most niggas here who just drift through life and muh can't study because of trauma, or can't cope with studies. He dropped out because he believed in his destiny
He was a decent student academically, he didn't drop out because he couldn't do it, he did it because he had pure conviction. He knew exactly what he was about to do.
HIs entire album is talking about his struggles. All falls down is his commentry on the rat race, then Writing a song and recording it from a neat death car crash in Through the Wire etc. It's his entire commentry of the world.
And that gamble payed off massively. His album did not just sell, it shifted the entire culture. Single handedly pivoted hip hop away from the chokehold of gangsta rap, redefined the sound of the 2000s. A chart topper for week. The most significant album of the 2000s period.
Ye dropped out 22 years ago and the rest is history. That bear represents everything the risk, the rebellion, and the defiance to be exactly who you are when everyone is telling you to be something else. It’s era
defining for a reason. Kanye is a lot of things but one thing he is not is a coward.
