If there is such a God, not believing in that God won't make him any less real. Your argument is "it would be bad if it's true, therefore it cannot be true". In a way, it's like if you’re standing on a train track and think "why should I believe in a speeding train that will kill you if it hits you? Therefore, I won't believe in the train". Even if you do that, the train is going to hit you and you will die.

So if there is a God who sends you to hell, not believing in that God won't make a difference. You'll still be in hell.
