Why did the monkey spin as it drowned?

I can understand beating against the jar, I can understand trying to push the lid while oxygen evades its nostrils and water fills its lungs. But why did it spin like a 360 no scope, I honestly dont understand it...

Why did the monkey spin while it drowned

The monkey that was drowned in mason jar kept spinning instead of trying to open the mason jar lid. It only pressed the lid the last second before it died. Why is it so stupid and what did it think would happen by spinning around in the water?
