Why do I look a lot worse when taking selfies using the default 3:4 camera aspect ratio, vs full ratio?

As title says, for some reason my face looks much worse with the 3:4 ratio than when I change to the Full aspect ratio setting.

3:4 makes my face longer, weird looking. While with Full it looks more familiar, like how I perceive myself in the mirror.

Have anyone experienced this?

Yeah but why does this not happen when using the Full aspect ratio. And why is the 3:4 ratio the default when it can distort an image so much.

I don’t remember exactly, we went through this crap about lenses in 8th grade in physics class. Well, the camera lens has a converging lens, and it seems that the image depends on the shooting angle and the lighting angle. Well that's what I think
