Why do I look so much better in pics with flash on??

I tend to look worse in flash lighting as well. Especially with Snapchat. That screen flash makes my face so flat looking.

for me i'm quite recessed so flash highlights the middle and upper part of my face and makes my jaw invisible and ugly as fuck

I’m not reccessed but my skin texture is abysmal. Neil Armstrong could have confused my face with the surface of the moon. So certain lighting tends to expose the acne scars on my face. I look the best in bar lighting or really bright LED lighting.
