I swear, EVERYTIME I shave my face, regardless of the amount of hair I had, I feel like I look weird and worse. I shaved my face yesterday and I had barely any hair to begin with, less than a 5 o clock shadow. But for some reason, everytime I shave I feel like I look way worse.

Do any of you have this? Is this purely psychological?

Yeah but I look barely any different, the hair I had before was only on my upper lip, and it was less than even a 5 o clock. Nobody commented on it, and usually when I grow my hair out to a noticeable extent and shave it, people always comment.

Because you are not used to see yourself like that. When beard/hair grows it changes your appearence gradually so you don't notice it but when you cut off a lot at the same time it's a drastic change.

So if I stay clean-shaven for at least a couple of weeks, I will grow accustomed to it?

Yes, same for me. When I grow then shave it looks weird but when I shave daily it looks normal.

When I grow facial hair I hate it. Being bloated and recessed makes facial hair ten times worse.

I had same problem but I analyzed my facial flaws and I managed to make light stubble that does not look bad. Sometimes the problem can be narrow gonial angel or long philtrum with thin upper lip. Sometimes can be small chin or all combined etc.

I feel a thousand times better after shaving because I like taking care of myself (and not looking like a Barbaros) :Comfy:

Its probably due to your brain. You havent seen your shaved look for long time and its sees its as new thing.

That's what I tried to explain to OP.

Yeah thats worst thing of beard . Even if you have bones it will make you look bloated. Thats why I go for very thin light stubble.

lose some face fat, in most cases shaving your face will give more definition and look. better, unless if your fat it will show baby face more

Does that mean we are actually subhumans but our brain will fogs it?
No, it just means our brains needs to get used to changed looks. Like you get a filling in your teeth it will feel weird for a day then your brain is used to it.

I think it's psychological, now that I've been clean-shaven for a week, I think I look weird with even the slightest amount of facial hair

You're used to seeing your face with facial hair; when it goes, it catches you off-guard.
The same thing doesn't really apply with growing facial hair, because it grows slowly (unlike shaving, where your appearance changes dramatically really quick) and you don't really notice it the same way.
