Walking through a city centre in England yesterday, and couldn’t help but notice just how many manlet pensioners there were.
Within the span of 5 minutes I think I might have seen 5 old men bellow the height of 5’4, and none above the age of 60+over 5’8.
From what I can remember, the tallest elderly man I have met was my late grandfather who was 6ft, which is decent but not exceptionally tall in comparison to men of all ages.

What would be the main reason for this?

Do tall men just die quicker?

Is there some kind of reverse survivorship bias where you won’t see tall old men strolling through city centres at their age, because they were able to live more successful lives and can live comfortably in better areas now?

Could it just be due to shrinking over time?

I have previously heard copers talk about how short men live longer lives, hopefully that’s not the main reason, it did seem somewhat far fetched.

Likely part of it is because taller people die earlier usually.
