Why do I still look dyel despite having intermediate tier lifts?

The majority of my lifts, according to this website, are in the intermediate range. https://strengthlevel.com/strength-standards

I can lift some solid weight and I am stronger than most people in my gym, but my body still doesn't look impressive. When people see my lifts, they are usually shocked to learn that I am much stronger than I appear to be. I think I also should add that I'm not very lean. 18-20% bf. Only have some definition in my upper abs, chest and arms. I've been working out intermittently for about 6-7 months (I took a few weeks off to prepare for my tests). For about 5 to 6 months, I mainly did lower rep powerlifter-style exercises. I only recently changed my workout to be more bodybuilder-style and began incorporating higher reps and isolation exercises. Any advice?

It's just takes time + you need to be lean as well provided you don't lose much muscle during cut

you probably just have a bad frame tbh.

i'm somewhere between novice and intermediate on most of those workouts and don't really go to the gym all that much and people comment on my physique all the time just because I have a naturally big ribcage and shoulders. it's just fucking genetics at the end of the day.

I've been on a small calorie deficit for some time now. Would you say strength increases more linear and easier to quantify?

No it's not linear as you keep bulking and gain fat it keeps on increasing at a slower pace as it used to also you'll be done with like 90% of your gains in first 2 years of training if you did most things right

DEFICIT IS KILLING YOUR GAINS, BULK IF U LOOK DYEL TO PUT ON MASS THEN CUT

INB4: MUH SMV DOWN CUZ BULK MEME

bulk is short term looksmin for lookterm looksmax.

Yeah like @5.5psl said if you go down to 10% bodyfat it will ascend you from dyel to decent looking without shirt

Intermediate is only better than 50% of men according to that website.

As we know, just being β€œabove average” is not enough.

I’ve realised there is almost no correlation between the way you look and what you can lift. I’ve seen skinny twigs lifting 130kg on the bench press and built brick shithouses barely scratching 100kg. It’s all about genetics tbh.

It’s your training style

low reps high intensity/very heavy weights is for strength

very low reps in particular

strength training is treated like practice - you aren’t exhausting your muscles here

Insertions + frame, you’ve got a larger frame it’s going to take a bit longer to fill it out but you’ll look better

What do y'all mean by genetics? Do you mean my frame? Even before gymcelling my should was wide. My ribcage is big too but unfortunately my hips are also on the wider side. my upper body is still wider than my hips tho

Are you curry? Genetics

prioritise shoulders, back. forearms over everything else, train with high intensity in the hypertrophic ranges of sets and reps + eat in a surplus + calorie deficit when you finish the bulk, inject t

all else is cope

If natty you'll always look dyel in clothes and you'll need to be around 10% BF to look good without
