Because you've confused ugliness with masculinity. Most likely because of how men are depicted in media.

Stupidity is not masculine, it's just good / bad genetics and environment.
Fat is not masculine, people were meant to be lean, hence why lean bodies are the most attractive, but media portrays men as fat slobs.
Unkempt is not masculine.
Balding is associated with masculinity due to it being more common in men, but it's actually just bad genetics (like being short).
Steroid abuse is artificial not genetic.

Square jaws (well, angular ones with a square chin, a wide jaw alone is more to do with function / environment than just genetics), thick muscular necks, large browridges, broad shoulders are masculine, these are genetic indicators.
