It's just a phase in their lives because of the human need to belong to something bigger than themselves, like the anime, punk, emo, rock, goth, etc. phase of some people in the past or simply the new and unique factor of a new exotic culture like Spanish dramas or those old cringe Indian movies from the early 2000s were very popular in the past..

It will disappear in a few years, but until then they will continue to be very obsessed with Asian entertainment, then they will evolve their interest to geography/tourism, then culture and society, and finally the last phase is when they will learn about the politics and economics of this part of the planet..

But all of this is just the result of a very well-crafted form of brainwashing targeted by Koreans for the Western audience through K-pop, K-Drama and beyond, designed to infatuate the audience, create parasocial relationships and fear of missing out among fans, which keeps them tied to continuing to engage..

(I was part of this whole thing between late 2017 and early 2021, so I'm very aware of everything that was happening there, which was exactly the most OG phase when this shit was really becoming mainstream, and I was done with it when everything was already starting to move to slop short form content on social media, instead of keeping everything on Youtube and long form content of pre pandemic era)
