because monogamy isn't natural and mostly build by ancient religious values who tried to control society.
We are wired to want to spread our DNA as far as possible (with as much partners as possible)

The tribe leaders, kings or prophets always had multiple wives/concubines while they made their people stick to one to produce new workers (their offspring)
