Part of the marketing for colognes is that perfumes are like art. It's just another thing to collect. However, it appeals to a lot of normies because of also the promise of getting girls if you smell good.

And usually the more rare/niche fragrances are more expensive. And people believe if they have a unique smell, it'll be what wins the chick over.
