Why do normies think taking unflattering pictures of others is the funniest thing ever

I just remembered how deeply this used to affect me. Atleast where i live its very normal for normies to try and take unflattering pictures of their friends for some reason.
This becomes a bigger problem the uglier you are, so some people i know who are very gl dont care and only see it as a funny thing, the pictures come out more like a comedian doing a funny face meanwhile doing it to someone who is ugly is more like a witchhunt.
My "friends" tried to sneak so many pictures of me and then expected me to laugh with them afterwards as if its not just a accurate picture of my deformed side profile. This is honestly one of the biggest reasons why i ever got so deep in this niche in the first place.

Is it caused by insecurity, competition or is it just one of the last socially acceptable passtimes that show the evil nature of normies?
I would never do such a thing to someone i see as my friend

I don’t know but this was a big reason why, when I was in college and finally had a lot of friends and was somewhat making it as NT, I eventually burned out and couldn’t do it anymore. Because people couldn’t just enjoy the moment and each other’s company, stupid ass pictures and Snapchat had to be brought into it. And I had this question like do I even wanna be NT.

I think people would feel WAY better if phones were never invented and we only had stationary PCs. Sadly im a big victim to it aswell as its so easy to retreat back to the phone screen if you feel alone, insecure or invisible in social settings but it just fucking sucks
