Why do people assume im lieing about height?

Why do all people lie about their height? They add shoe height like 2-3 cm and a few cm on top of that. A lot of times people ask how tall i am to which i say my barefoot height. And they always think im like 5-10 cm shorter than what i say. Thats a 2-4 inches for my americans.. Am i supposed to add shoe height when i tell them?
